If there is any evidence that the FDA is bought out by food companies, it’s the raw milk debate. My parents recently joined a herd share program, where you “buy” part of the cow and in return you get a certain amount of milk per week. The herd share is necessary because it is illegal to buy raw milk in Ohio. Raw milk can cause illness, however, if it comes from proper conditions then food-borne illness is not really an issue with raw milk. If you do buy raw milk though, you should be aware of any risks associated with it though.
This herd share program my parents joined is only barely legal. The farmer has been brought to court by the government in an attempt to shut them down (there was no outbreak associated with this farm by the way) and the farm won only on a technicality. There is a problem with this situation though. Why is the FDA/USDA wasting its time trying to shut down raw milk producers? Why are they trying to ban raw dairy consumption? The answer from the FDA is that it is dangerous. This response is why I am proposing that the FDA ban sprouts. Raw vegetables have been associated with so many outbreaks (be real, we are always hearing about them on the news) but yet I don’t see any state mandates against raw vegetables. I single out sprouts because if they are contaminated no amount of washing will rid the plant of pathogens.
The food industry is so angering because it is not looking out for people’s best interests. If people want to consume raw milk then let them. Raw milk is not a uniquely dangerous product. I have a feeling the dairy industry is in bed with the FDA, just like the meat industry and Monsanto control the USDA. I know I probably sound crazy but when you research this stuff it is so corrupt.
So, I’m proposing that the FDA ban sprouts because of their association with food-borne illness. If the FDA thinks it is their business to ban raw milk and shut down family farms producing food the right way, then they should be doing the same thing in regards to raw vegetables.
I would like the right to buy dairy products from cows who have a good life. I would also like the right to drink whatever kind of milk that I want to drink even with the risks involved. The corrupt FDA and USDA need to get their priorities straight.
